Visa and travel documents
Visa: Required. Apply via the Tanzania eVisa website or on arrival at the airport. Cost: €50 per person. A visa can only be paid for with dollars ($). Therefore, always bring enough dollars!
Passport: At least 6 months valid after the date of departure.
Travel insurance: Essential, must cover medical costs and repatriation.
Health and vaccinations
Recommended vaccinations: DTP (Diphtheria, Tetanus, Polio), Hepatitis A, Measles/Mumps/Rubella.
Yellow fever: Required upon arrival from a risk area, otherwise recommended.
Additional vaccinations: Hepatitis B (long stay), Rabies (lots of nature contact), Typhoid (longer than two weeks stay in remote areas).
Malaria prevention: Tanzania is a malaria area, so consult a travel doctor about medication and use insect repellent with at least 30% DEET.
Mosquito protection: Sleep under an impregnated mosquito net and wear long clothing at dawn and dusk.
Drinking water & hygiene: Only drink bottled water, avoid ice cubes and raw food.

Climate and best time to travel
Climate: Tropical, warm all year round. Rainy seasons: March-May (long) and November-December (short).
Best time to travel: June-October for safaris, January-March for the birth wave in the Serengeti.
Best time to travel for your wallet: April-June and November-December are considered the low season for safaris in Tanzania. During these months, prices for accommodations, flights, and safaris are often lower. Although the weather may be a bit less predictable (rainy season), it is an excellent time for travelers looking to minimize costs and avoid crowds.
Time zone
Tanzania is 2 hours ahead of the Netherlands in winter time and 1 hour in summer time.
Currency and payments
Currency: Tanzanian Shilling (TZS), USD is widely accepted. EUR is also accepted in many places.
Payments: Cash recommended for small expenses. Credit cards are accepted in hotels and restaurants (possibly with extra fees).
Language and communication
Language: Swahili and English. Our guides speak English.
Internet: Wi-Fi available in almost all lodges and hotels.
Mobile data: We can arrange a local SIM card for affordable calls and internet access.
Safety and health
Avoid remote areas after sunset.
Keep valuables secure.
Drink only bottled water.
Altitude sickness: Consider symptoms and prevention when climbing Kilimanjaro.
Travel pharmacy: Bring basic medicines such as painkillers, anti-diarrhoea drugs, and ORS.
Clothing and luggage
Clothing: Light, neutral colors, hat and sunglasses recommended.
Luggage: Soft suitcase or backpack, hard suitcases are less practical in safari vehicles.
Electricity and plugs
Voltage: 230V, sockets type D and G (European plugs usually work).
Charging: Bring a power bank for extra power supply.
Tips for safaris
Binoculars: Useful for spotting animals.
Camera: Bring extra batteries and memory cards.
Respect nature: Keep distance from animals and follow guide instructions.
Gratuities and payments
Guides/drivers: $10-20 per day.
Hotel and lodge staff: $1-2 per service.
