The water project near the Ngorongoro Crater

Travel with meaning

Our projects

Kembe Safari grew out of a friendship in Tanzania. What began with a water source near the Ngorongoro Crater grew into projects for clean drinking water, education, work and food security.

From friendship to change

Your trip makes the difference

Every trip you take with us contributes directly to our projects in Tanzania.

What began with a single water source near the Ngorongoro Crater grew into a series of projects: a farm that provides work and food, a school where children can learn close to home, and communities that come together more strongly. So your safari is not only unforgettable, but also a source of hope and growth for the people you meet along the way.

The flight is the one place where we cannot get around the big airlines. Everything else is from here. We invest in the farm, the irrigation and the power supply, which create work and food, and we donate for the water well, the school and the community around it. That is how we build the country, together with the people who live there.

Our projects

Together we build a better future

Four projects, one goal: lasting impact for the people around the Ngorongoro Crater, from clean drinking water to education and work.

The farm and agriculture

Together with the local community we are working towards sustainable agriculture. The farm provides employment and makes sure families have access to food and a stable income. By developing water sources and making the most of the farmland, we are creating a future-proof solution for the people of this area.

The water project

Access to clean drinking water is vital. After several drillings we built a stable water source together with the community. A remote village now has clean water: the basis for further developments, such as the farm and the school.

Education

Education and school sponsorship

We sponsored a local school and helped complete its construction, so children no longer have to walk kilometres for their education. With a water pipe to the school, pupils and teachers now always have clean drinking water, so children can focus better on their lessons.

Supporting the community

Around the Ngorongoro Crater we support several churches financially, so they can keep going and the musical experience is encouraged. Music brings people together. In that way we contribute to a closer and more resilient community.

Milestones

A timeline of our projects

Follow the milestones of our work over the years, from the first water drilling to a farm with power and irrigation.

First water drilling

First water drilling

In 2022 we returned to Tanzania, four years after our first visit in 2018, for the very first water drilling. Sadly, this attempt was unsuccessful.

At the end of 2022 the moment finally came: after three failed attempts, the fourth drilling struck water! A remote village now has access to clean drinking water, and we could take the next steps.

Preparing the land for farming

Preparing the land for farming

After the success of the drilling, the rugged, rocky landscape was cleared and made suitable for farming. A team of 100 people worked hard, and at the same time construction of the “Farm House” began.

In early 2023 the “Farm House” was completed, an important milestone on the way to a fully fledged farm. This building gives the staff a place to cook, rest and, if needed, stay overnight.

Installing irrigation systems

Once water had been found, water tanks and irrigation pipes were purchased. Gravity does the work, letting the drip lines distribute the water efficiently. The first seeds are in the ground!

A school near the farm could not be finished because of a lack of funds. We helped complete the building and had a house built for the teacher. Thanks to this school, children now have far fewer miles to walk.

After the school was built, a new challenge followed: clean drinking water for the children and teachers. A pipeline and a reservoir now give the school access to clean water.

We helped a local church improve its music facilities and supported another church in completing its new building. In this way we strengthen the sense of togetherness and development in the region.

Installing a power supply

Installing a power supply

To enable further growth, a permanent power supply has been installed. There is now electricity 24/7, so water can be pumped continuously: for a more stable water supply, larger scale irrigation and a more sustainable farm.
