1. Rates

The rates below apply to the private 4x4 Land Cruiser with a driver-guide in northern Tanzania.

  • The daily rate is €275 per calendar day per vehicle.

  • The same rate applies to every park, including Serengeti National Park.

  • The daily rate includes fuel and your driver-guide’s accommodation and meals.

  • The minimum booking period is three calendar days.

  • The rate is per vehicle, not per person.

  • Days without any driving are also charged in full.

  • The booking runs until the vehicle and driver-guide are back in Arusha. Any days needed for the return journey are charged as part of the booking.

  • If the trip ends at Seronera airstrip, for example, the drive back to Arusha may be charged as an extra day.

  • Transfers from Kilimanjaro International Airport and Arusha Airport are covered by the normal daily rate when they take place on a booked day.

  • For bookings made within 30 days of departure, a short-notice rate applies, quoted on request.

  • All rates include applicable taxes.

Example calculation

7 calendar days: 7 × €275 is €1,925 per vehicle, fuel included. For 2 adults and 2 children, that comes to €481.25 per person for the vehicle and driver-guide. Park fees, accommodation and activities are extra.

2. Fuel

  • Fuel is included in the daily rate.

  • You won’t pay anything for fuel along the way, and nothing will be added to your bill afterwards.

3. Park fees and activities

We always arrange and pay park fees for you. We can also book activities for you.

  • Park fees always go through Kembe. You can only arrange park fees or permits yourself if we have agreed this with you in writing in advance.

  • You’ll receive a park fee estimate when we confirm availability.

  • A 15 per cent handling fee applies to park fees and to activities that Kembe books and pays for.

  • Park fees are usually charged per 24-hour period from the time of entry.

  • The exact cost depends on the park, when you travel, the travellers’ ages, the accommodation you choose and the length of stay.

  • You pay 80 per cent of the estimated park fees and activity costs in advance. This amount is due together with the balance of the vehicle rate.

  • Within a week after the trip, we calculate the final amount based on the actual rates. Receipts and supporting documents are available on request.

  • If park rates or other government charges change, we may pass the change on to you.

4. Currency

Costs in Tanzanian shillings or US dollars are converted at CRDB Bank’s selling rate on the invoice date, plus 3 per cent for exchange rate differences and bank charges.

5. Payment

  • Your booking is final once you accept our proposal and we confirm it in writing.

  • We then invoice you for a deposit of 50 per cent of the vehicle rate.

  • You pay the balance no later than seven days before departure, unless the invoice states an earlier date.

  • Payment is made in euros by bank transfer.

Want peace of mind?

Take out cancellation insurance with your own insurer, ideally as soon as your booking is confirmed. Kembe doesn’t offer cancellation insurance itself. Check the policy terms when you take it out: not every policy covers park fees you’ve already paid or a cancelled domestic flight.

If non-refundable costs have been incurred for your trip and we told you about them in advance, different cancellation charges may apply. This may include park fees and activities that have already been paid.

If you book accommodation through us as well as the vehicle, your trip may count as a package holiday. In that case, the statutory rules on package travel also apply.

7. Changes

  • If you want to change anything, let us know as soon as possible. We’ll do our best to arrange it, but can’t guarantee availability.

  • We may pass on supplier costs and reasonable administration costs.

  • A significant change to dates, route, trip length or the make-up of your group may count as a cancellation and a new booking.

  • If days are added or removed, the price is recalculated.

  • If you miss travel days because of circumstances on your side, such as a delayed flight, the booked daily rate remains payable. If the vehicle breaks down, we arrange replacement transport.

8. Safety

Your driver-guide always puts safety first and may adjust the itinerary if, in their professional judgement, a route or schedule is unsafe, irresponsible or not feasible. We always discuss this with you and look for a good alternative together.

9. Insurance

  • The Land Cruiser is fully insured.

  • We strongly advise every traveller to take out comprehensive travel insurance covering medical costs, repatriation, luggage, accidents and safari activities.

  • We also strongly recommend cancellation insurance.

10. Area of operation

  • The 4x4 Land Cruiser with a driver-guide is available in northern Tanzania.

  • Other transport is used on Zanzibar, and Kembe can arrange it separately if you wish.

  • Kembe doesn’t offer self-drive. The Land Cruiser is always driven by an experienced driver-guide.

These rates and conditions expand on the General Travel and Transport Terms of Kembe Safari (September 2026 version). In the event of any discrepancy, the general terms and conditions take precedence, unless otherwise agreed in your quote or booking confirmation.
